Welcome to Allie's Wine Blog
Hello, my name is Allie Childress and I am a senior this semester studying English literature. I wanted to take this course so I could become more familiar with the world of wine and all it has to offer! My main goal is to expand my palette and learn to love the many different tastes wine can provide. I also find the historic/geographical backgrounds about wine to be super interesting, especially the stuff that was covered in our first lecture video.
My history with wine is pretty tame, for I usually gravitate towards beers or liquors when drinking. If I am to drink wine, it is usually the super cheap stuff I can grab at a 7/11. Primarily Barefoot. I have dabbled in going to some wineries and trying different types of wines, and I have noticed I really enjoy white wines that aren't too dry. I also really love sparkling white wines. Red wine is something I have not really enjoyed yet, but I am sure it is an acquired taste that I can grow into. The one red wine that I tried was at a winery, and it was intentionally chilled (which I believe is uncommon for reds). It was a pretty sweet wine, and I purchased a bottle of it before I left.
When my friends and I get together for 'wine nights', we generally all stick to either Moscatos, Rose, or Pinot Grigio. Aldi has a brand called 'Winking Owl' that is super cheap, and their Moscato is delicious. My parents recently went on a summer trip to Italy and returned home with a few really fancy bottles of red wine. They each grew to love wine tasting during their time there, and that is something I hope to experience as well.
Here is a photo of me, I look forward to this course!
